Matthew De Abaitua is the author of The Red Men (shortlisted for the Arthur C Clarke Award), IF THEN and The Destructives, three novels interlinked by themes of artificial intelligence, human simulation, algorithmic economies, digital agencies and emergence. His most recent book is Self & I: A Memoir of Literary Ambition.

In 2007, a paper in the Journal of Neuroscience, co-written by future Deep Mind founder Demis Hassabis, examined brain activities associated with the human imagination.
