Creating a Brand with Meaning

Wednesday 4th October 2017 by United by Design in DotYork

After attending Dot York in previous years, we were keen to get involved in anyway we could. Sponsoring the event was right up our street and we’re pleased to be a working sponsor, contributing not only our skills in design but also in branding. The Dot York brand was ready for a revamp and at United by Design, we were excited to take on the challenge!

When considering the re-brand of Dot York in our creative studio, we started to look at the way in which dots can be used within communication - taking inspiration from the art and practice of Braille and Morse Code. The idea that the formation of patterns through raised dots can communicate a clear, direct message felt very relevant and we knew we were onto a brand concept that was going to stand out from the crowd!

Taking these concepts further, our designers created a series of patterns, made from words and phrases, relevant to the core of the Dot York brand. We had fun with the subtleties the design offered, incorporating the ‘dot’ into the brand logo and turning the Braille and Morse Code concept into an abstract, funky design.

In terms of colour, we chose to match the modern pattern design with a bright palette to add a sense of freshness and energy. It was important that this mix of vibrant colour would work with the patterns creating something visual and really exciting.

We’re also helping to create all the supporting materials you’ll see on the day at Dot York 2017 and in the lead up to the event. Needless to say we’re excited for the 9th November… see you there!
